Here are some highlights from TCM and Bonham’s successful film memorabilia auction, plus a link of similar upcoming events.
The prized possession of the auction was the famous of all coveted movie possessions, the titular Maltese Falcon statue. It was sold for a surprising $3.5 million, but the others fell short below projected bids.
Other memorabilia sold included:
- Sam Spade rocking chair in The Maltese Falcon.
- A polka-dot costume worn by Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce.
- Batman costumes, including Jack Nicholson’s Joker costume and the Batsuit.
- A negligee worn by Vivien Leigh in Gone with the Wind.
- A shooting script from Casablanca, with some evidence of tinkering.
- A replica of the Ruby Slippers from the 50th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz.
- Letters written by Marilyn Monroe to her foster mom.
Some of the proceeds went to film preservation efforts.
This is the last high-profile Hollywood auction for a while. However, there are more coming up throughout the coming months, which you can see here.
